Olivier Rioux is a college basketball national champion from his redshirt season with the Florida Gators.
After one more season at Florida, he transferred this offseason to UC-Irvine.
And with that transfer came a chance to throw out a ceremonial first pitch nearby his new home. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim welcomed Rioux out to the mound before their game on Tuesday night.
The important thing to mention: Rioux is 7-foot-9.
So his ceremonial first pitch was astounding:
— MLB (@MLB) July 22, 2026That's Angels outfielder Wade Meckler with the honor of catching the first pitch, and then posing for a picture with Rioux.
It's even funnier as a visual because Meckler is just 5-foot-9. That's a whole two-foot difference between those two humans.
Rioux is a center, not a pitcher. But can you imagine?
He'd have incredible extension on the mound if he had solid pitching mechanics.
Maybe if the whole basketball thing doesn't work out, someone should see if they can turn Rioux into a pitcher.
