76ers reportedly signing $147M elite shooter, ex-Lakers NBA champion to reunite with LeBron James

The Philadelphia 76ers were not considered a serious contender for LeBron James when NBA free agency began nearly a month ago. However, after making an aggressive trade for former Boston Celtic Jaylen Brown, Philadelphia opened up an entirely new opportunity for the organization.

After James remained quiet for more than three weeks, the decision was finalized Friday morning when he announced that he would finish his career in Philadelphia.

“LeBron James is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers for his final run at another NBA championship, he announced Friday,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin wrote. “James, 41, is signing a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option, Klutch Sports Group CEO Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania.”

The 76ers already have an impressive starting lineup and solid depth, but they could still look to add more pieces to the roster. One specific area of need is adding more defensive-minded players and reliable three-point shooters off the bench.

“The Philadelphia 76ers should prioritize defense and three-point shooting after LeBron James signed with the team this offseason,” Athlon Sports’ Paolo Songco wrote.

The 76ers are undoubtedly one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference this upcoming season. Their roster is loaded with talent and difficult to overlook. It also does not appear that Philadelphia is finished making moves, as James’ former teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is expected to join the team once he is officially bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is negotiating a buyout with the Grizzlies and intends to sign with the 76ers, per Chris B Haynes. KCP joins Bron in Philly,” Bleacher Report posted.

Caldwell-Pope is exactly the type of player the 76ers need off the bench, and he brings a wealth of championship experience. James and Caldwell-Pope won a championship together with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2020 NBA bubble.

Caldwell-Pope has earned $147 million through his NBA contracts throughout his career. This is the type of move Philadelphia should make, and it is one James will certainly approve of. So far, after landing James, the 76ers are making all the right moves.
