Destiny 2

Bungie

Destiny 2 is adding no more new content to the game at this point, this past Monument of Triumph update its last. While there will be nothing new to do in the game…ever, there is still something that players will, in theory, be able to grind for indefinitely. And it’s not god roll loot.

With the kitchen sink thrown out for this update, Bungie has also “unleashed” Destiny 2’s Eververse. While there are a couple new things in the story now, plus a new battle pass, Bungie has introduced Bright Dust focusing. For the first time, that allows players to get a Bright Engram and focus it into something from a category they want, and it’s guaranteed to drop something that they don’t have.

How will this grind last so long? Well, getting Bright Engrams takes a very, very long time. You will run out of the ones in the season pass, and eventually, only get more through lots of XP once you make it past the end of that pass. I think I’ve gotten maybe five total playing non-stop since the update.

And there is so, so much to focus. This will vary by player and how much they already have, but here is the list I have in my own focusing gallery:

  • Eververse Engram (separate pool) - 38
  • Exotic Weapon Ornaments – 60+
  • Exotic Ghost Shells – 60+
  • Exotic Ships – 60+
  • Exotic Sparrows – 60+
  • Legendary Shells, Ships, Sparrows – 57
  • Shaders - 44
  • Exotic Emotes – 60+
  • Legendary Emotes – 60+
  • Legendary Finishers – 55
  • Ghost Projections, Holochips and Transmats – 60+
  • Hunter Exotic and Legendary Armor Ornaments - 32+31+26+24+26 = 139
  • Titan Exotic and Legendary Armor Ornaments - 28+29+26+17+26 = 126
  • Warlock Exotic and Legendary Armor Ornaments = 31+26+27+29+26 = 139

All the 60+ ones there for the cosmetics are only that because it’s the maximum size of the page and there is no way to scroll for more. And I have no idea how many more there are. But you see the point here. We are talking hundreds of things to grind for, and even if you’re just doing a few categories (I really only care about ornaments and shaders), that’s still eons, potentially. Plus you need thousands of Bright Dust to focus all these, plus the engrams. The exception here is that the Bright Dust store will rotate daily to feature a number of these, including ones you don’t have, but the prices there are steep in most cases. Regardless, this will take forever.

This is, obviously, far from a necessary grind, but if you want anything to go for and you simply just want to keep playing Destiny 2, well, there’s an objective for you, however impossible it may be.

Grind forever, Guardian.
