rtificial intelligence continued to dominate the discussion in 2024, even as startups confronted challenges like a data crunch and a litany of lawsuits. With the race to build cutting edge AI applications intensifying, Forbes is opening submissions for our annual AI 50 list to spotlight the frontrunners.

Since 2019, Forbes has published an annual edition of the AI 50, highlighting the most promising startups whose businesses are underpinned by artificial intelligence. Now in its seventh year, the list is open to companies across the globe that are held privately and are more than 50% independent. In a space cluttered with flashy demos and bold promises, the AI 50 list features startups that are meaningfully applying AI to solve real world problems across different industries, and making money doing it.

Nominations for the 2025 list are now open through Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time at the following link:

Forbes produces the list in partnership with Sequoia Capital and Meritech Capital. Applicants are evaluated using both quantitative and qualitative information including technical abilities, revenue, business growth and valuation. Two panels of independent judges — one with academic or professional expertise in AI, and the other with long-standing investing experience in the field — scrutinize the strongest applicants on criteria like business promise and innovative use of AI. There is no fee for entry or consideration.

Companies can mark certain financial data as confidential, meaning they will be used for list-making purposes only and will not be published publicly. Non-disclosure of data will not negatively impact a company’s application, though disclosing the information may help it stand out among peers.

The final list is unranked and includes a mix of early-stage and growth-stage startups. For a detailed explanation of the methodology, click here.

In addition to inclusion on the list, companies that make the AI 50 are highlighted with in-depth coverage, including list trends, video content and profiles. Past standouts include Notion, Perplexity, Scale AI and Writer.

Nominate your startup through the application form by Friday, February 7, 2025 to be considered for our seventh annual AI 50 list.
