For more than half a decade now, Ariana Grande has managed a truly impressive feat, one reserved for only a handful of the biggest names in the music industry. Whenever she begins a new era, the first single from an upcoming album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Of her seven solo full-lengths, her most recent three have accomplished the showing, and Grande remains one of the most successful acts of all time when looking at No. 1 starts on the list of the most-consumed songs in America.

Later this summer, the singer and actress will deliver her eighth project, Petal, and lead single "Hate That I Made You Love Me" arrived only a few days ago. Today (June 4) marks the final 24 hours of the first full tracking period for that song, and the superstar is doing everything she can to turn "Hate That I Made You Love Me" into an immediate No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ariana Grande Floods iTunes with Her New Single

A common tactic these days used by major musicians hoping to score a lofty debut on the Billboard Hot 100 with a new song is to drop multiple versions of the track. Billboard groups all similarly-titled editions of a tune, which can include remixes, instrumentals and the like, into one entity. Super fans of an act are typically savvy enough these days to understand that purchasing not just the original, but in some cases multiple copies of several versions, can play a major role in making a new release a smash.

Grande has followed that plan, and it looks like it's working. At the moment, eight versions of "Hate That I Made You Love Me" appear on the iTunes Top Songs chart, which ranks the bestselling tracks on that platform in America. Half a dozen of those bestsellers appear within the top 10, and Grande currently claims every one of the highest five spaces. Updated takes on the single, including ones labeled live from rehearsal, melody pass version, ari lyric draft from bed and an a cappella take, sit inside the top five, while the instrumental dips to No. 7. Other slightly altered editions of "Hate That I Made You Love Me" also sit at Nos. 27 and 42 at the moment.

Ariana Grande Wants Another No. 1 Debut

Grande is hoping to score her eighth No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 with her just-shared single. She began her historic run with her album Thank U, Next, which saw both the title track and second single "7 Rings" launch in first place. Two songs not connected to any of Grande's albums – "Stuck With U," a collaboration with Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga's "Rain on Me,” featured on her set Chromatica – also opened at the summit on the Billboard Hot 100.

"Positions," which fronted the album of the same name, debuted in the top spot as well. Both "Yes, And?" and "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)," the first two promotional tracks from her most recent full-length Eternal Sunshine, also managed the feat.

Ariana Grande Could Tie Taylor Swift in a Few Days

If Grande launches "Hate That I Made You Love Me" at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, she will tie Taylor Swift for the second-most instant leaders among all artists. Grande currently sits alone in third place with seven, just one ahead of BTS, while Drake leads the charge. He recently became the first act to collect 10 of these winners when "Janice STFU," which holds at No. 1 for a second frame, introduced his biggest week yet on the ranking.
