Atlanta Braves announce handful of roster moves before Padres series finale

The Atlanta Braves are looking to avoid being swept on Wednesday when they take on the San Diego Padres. Atlanta has hit a bit of a rough patch over the last couple of weeks, but remains in first place in the NL East.

Before the series finale against the Padres, the Braves announced several roster moves, centered around RHP Tyler Kinley and rookie JR Ritchie.

The Braves' official X account made the official announcements:

"The #Braves today reinstated RHP Tyler Kinley from the injured list after optioning RHP JR Ritchie to Triple-A Gwinnett. The club also selected RHP Ian Hamilton to the major league roster and designated RHP Carlos Carrasco for assignment."

Tyler Kinley has a 3.18 ERA with the Braves this season over 31 appearances and 28.1 total innings. With Ritchie being demoted, it adds to the ongoing question of whether the Braves should add another starter via trade.

So, JR Ritchie, after allowing five runs on Tuesday evening, is headed back down to Triple-A for the time being, and for now, Carlos Carrasco is in DFA limbo, but there's a strong chance he will be back with the Braves at some point.

Ian Hamilton will join the Braves bullpen. The former Yankees reliever Hamilton has pitched just one inning with the Braves this season (back in April), and he surrendered three earned runs.

As for Carlos Carrasco, he pitched in the Braves' 7-6 loss on Tuesday and allowed one earned run in 1.2 IP.

After their series concludes against the Padres, Atlanta will stay out West to take on the San Francisco Giants
