On Jan. 3, Aubrey Plaza’s husband, the esteemed indie director and writer Jeff Baena, died by suicide in his LA home. He was 47 years old.

After news of his death broke, Aubrey and Jeff’s family issued a brief statement to People, which read: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

But on Sunday, Aubrey bravely made her first public appearance since Jeff’s death at Saturday Night Live’s 50th-anniversary special, which saw a whole host of big-name celebrities come together to celebrate 50 years of the hit NBC sketch show.

But what viewers may have missed is Aubrey’s poignant tribute to Jeff during her fleeting TV appearance, with the star wearing a tie-dye shirt under a black blazer. Aubrey previously revealed that tie-dye holds a special meaning for her and her husband.

Aubrey’s SNL appearance comes after she featured in a Ritz cracker commercial that aired during last weekend’s Super Bowl, which was filmed prior to Jeff’s tragic death.
