Australia face Egypt in Dallas on Friday on the final day of the World Cup Round of 32.
The Socceroos progressed from Group D in second place behind co-hosts the United States and will now take on the runners-up from Group G.
Neither of these teams has won a World Cup knockout game before, so history is on the line at AT&T Stadium. The small matter of defending champions Argentina in the Round of 16 could await the winners — the very team that eliminated Australia at the same stage four years ago.

Prematch
12:30 a.m. - The team news is in. Australia are unchanged from their cordial draw with Paraguay, while Mohamed Salah has made it for Egypt. The Liverpool great has been nursing a hamstring injury. Omar Marmoush returns to the attack and will hope to open his World Cup account.

10:30 a.m. - Egypt's World Cup record is a curious one. The Pharaohs are the most successful side in Africa Cup of Nations history, winning their continental title seven times. However, from Cameroon in 1990, to Nigeria later that same decade, Senegal in 2002 and Morocco in 2022, other countries have planted Africa's flag on the global stage. This is only Egypt's fourth appearance at the World Cup. Between 1990 and 2018, a period when they won four AFCON titles, they did not qualify at all. The group stage win over New Zealand, which effectively sealed qualification for the knockout rounds, was their first-ever victory at the finals. It'd be a decent time to get win No. 2 today.
9 a.m. - We've reached the final day of the Round of 32. Australia and Egypt are both hoping to make history today: neither side has ever gone beyond the first knockout stage before. Of course, this is the first time there has been a World Cup Round of 32, so the winners here will technically match their best performance at the tournament.
