Bills could be perfect trade landing spot for $31 million edge rusher

The Buffalo Bills are going to look different in 2026, that much is easy to see.

Joe Brady is entering his first season as the head coach and there's hope that this change in leadership can be what gets the team over the postseason hump. The offense brought in wide receiver D.J. Moore, and the defense notably brought in Bradley Chubb and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

If there's one area that could still use some reinforcements, it's the pass rush. Yes, Chubb was added, but there's still not much depth behind the veteran and Greg Rousseau. Luckily, though, there could be a perfect trade option who plays not too far away from Buffalo.

Bills could be perfect landing spot for Kayvon Thibodeaux

Randy Gurzi of Bills On SI recently identified four realistic trade targets for the Bills in July. One of the players listed is Giants' edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux is a former first-round pick who may be getting squeezed out in New York.

The Giants already have Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, and they added Arvell Reese this offseason, who can also rush the passer. As a result, it's hard to see much of a future in the Big Apple for Thibodeaux.

Regarding Thibodeaux's fit in Buffalo, Gurzi offered the following:

One of the biggest names to be floated as a trade piece this offseason is New York Giants EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux. The former Oregon standout broke out in 2023 with 11.5 sacks, but has seen his numbers decling since then. With the Giants building their defense around Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, Thibodeaux is expected to be available.

The price tag to land Thibodeaux wouldn't be too high since he's coming off a season with just 2.5 sacks in 10 games and has an expiring contract. That said, he has the talent to be a force and would be worth the roll of the dice for Buffalo.

As Gurzi mentioned, Thibodeaux has been a productive player in the past, but he's had a couple of seasons of declining production. The Oregon standout is also slated to be a free agent after 2026, so the Giants probably can't expect to get too much for him in a trade.

In 2025, Thibodeaux played in 10 games and collected 25 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. While those sack numbers aren't that encouraging, his run defense was solid. Thibodeaux earned an 80.7 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus, which ranked seventh out of all edge rushers.

In Buffalo, Thibodeaux could rotate in with Chubb, Rousseau, and rookie T.J. Parker. That move would definitely improve the depth and be good insurance for Chubb and Parker.

Can Bills still contend in 2026?

Often when a head coach is in his first season with a team, people expect a down year. It takes a while to get a system implemented and get things rolling. However, it's clear the Bills aren't planning on 2026 being a gap year.

Josh Allen is still one of the best passers in the game, and it's exciting to see a veteran receiver like D.J. Moore added. The defense still has plenty of talent, and it will be interesting to see if the rookies and offseason additions can contribute immediately.
