Blue Jays given 35% chance to trade away $110 million All-Star pitcher

The Toronto Blue Jays are not exactly in a good spot when it comes to making a postseason push to repeat as American League champions.

They're 46-54 on the regular season, 5.5 games back of the AL Wild Card, and 11.5 back in the AL East race. This Blue Jays team might actually wind up as trade deadline sellers if things don't improve.

If they sell, there are some interesting players that they could move by the August 3 deadline. Regarding one of them, $110 million starting pitcher Kevin Gausman, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan gave Toronto a 35% chance to trade him this summer.

Kevin Gausman has 35% chance to be traded by Blue Jays per ESPN

"19. Kevin Gausman, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays. Chance of being traded: 35%," McDaniel and Passan projected. "While the Blue Jays have given no indication they plan to deal Gausman, facts are facts. He's an impending free agent. They now find themselves with the fourth-worst record in the AL."

Between Gausman set to hit free agency after the 2026 season, and the Blue Jays sitting with one of the worst records in the American League, a trade of the right-handed veteran makes some sense.

The 35-year-old pitcher is hitting free agency after 2026, and while he might not bring a massive return, there are surely a few teams with interest in the $110 million All-Star.

He has a 4.33 ERA this season with a 4-8 record, 1.3 bWAR, 116 strikeouts, and a 104 ERA+ in 112.1 innings pitched across 20 starts.

With the Blue Jays on the outside looking in for the postseason hunt, with under two weeks to go until the trade deadline, Gausman is a player who has a real chance of being traded.

The 35% trade odds for Gausman aren't high, as the wide-open AL does allow the Blue Jays to make up ground these next few weeks and challenge for a postseason spot.

But if they falter a bit, this trade percentage is only going to increase. Toronto has to come to terms with reality and sell if they can't make up ground between now and August 3.

If such a future comes to pass, Gausman's trade odds, at 35% right now according to Passan and McDaniel, should only increase.
