Browns' award-winning LB called 'Luke Kuechly reincarnated' by NFL exec

The Cleveland Browns traded away Myles Garrett this offseason, but they might have someone ready to take up the mantle of superstar defender in his absence.

It's not Jared Verse, who is Garrett's direct replacement, or Mason Graham, the team's first-rounder from 2025. Instead, the defender likely to lead this defense is award-winning linebacker Carson Schwesinger.

The Browns' 2025 second-rounder put on a show last year, and in a poll shared by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler of NFL scouts, executives, and coaches, Schwesinger not only ranked third overall among linebackers but also earned a wild Luke Kuechly comparison.

Browns' Carson Schwesinger called 'Luke Kuechly reincarnated' by NFL exec

"He's [Luke] Kuechly reincarnated. Elite speed, athleticism, instincts, ball skills," one NFL personnel executive said.

This is some wild praise for Schwesinger to receive after just one season in the NFL. Kuechly is a Hall of Famer. Being called his reincarnation is a huge level of praise.

Schwesinger won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2025, putting together an incredible campaign with some ridiculous statistics.

In 16 games, Schwesinger recorded two interceptions, 2.5 sacks, 156 tackles, nine quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, and three passes defended.

Among all defenders last season, Fowler notes that only T.J. Watt and Laiatu Latu finished the year with at least two sacks, two interceptions, and 10 tackles for loss.

What makes that statistic so impressive is that Watt and Latu are edge rushers, while Schwesinger is an off-ball linebacker.

The Browns' rookie has ascended to stardom already, and this one NFL executive is even going as far as to call him the reincarnation of Hall of Famer Luke Kuechly, one of the best modern linebackers in NFL history.

Schwesinger was not only the third-ranked off-ball LB by the NFL in this ESPN poll, but he was even compared to one of the best linebackers in recent history. What a way to begin a career for the Browns' second-round linebacker.
