Caitlin Clark injury update: Fever star's status vs. Valkyries revealed before key WNBA showdown

1 hour ago 1

The Indiana Fever have won two straight games and will look to keep that momentum rolling Wednesday night when they host the Golden State Valkyries in one of the most intriguing matchups on the WNBA schedule.

With Indiana continuing its push up the standings and Golden State entering the game riding a seven-game winning streak, all eyes have been on the final injury report,  particularly the status of Caitlin Clark and Valkyries standout Gabby Williams.

The good news for Fever fans is that Clark is expected to suit up despite continuing to manage a lingering back injury.

Caitlin Clark expected to play against Golden State

Indiana released its final injury report on Tuesday, listing Clark as probable because of her back. While the injury has appeared on recent reports, it has not prevented the All-Star guard from taking the floor. Clark has continued to play through the issue and remains one of the league's most impactful players.

Her availability is a major boost for the Fever, who enter Wednesday's contest at 14-9 after dismantling the Las Vegas Aces 109-75 on Sunday. Although Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 27 points in that victory, Clark once again helped orchestrate Indiana's offense while benefiting from another balanced performance that featured 19 points and 11 rebounds from Aliyah Boston.

The Fever have found their rhythm entering the second half of the season, and having Clark available gives them their best chance to extend their winning streak to three games.

Gabby Williams remains questionable for Valkyries

Golden State's injury situation is less certain. The Valkyries have listed veteran forward Gabby Williams as questionable with a back contusion after she missed the team's previous game.

Williams has been one of Golden State's most versatile players this season, providing scoring, defense and playmaking for a team that owns one of the WNBA's best records at 17-7.

If she is unable to play again, the Valkyries will continue leaning on players such as Veronica Burton, who scored 17 points with six assists in Friday's win over the Connecticut Sun, and Janelle Salaün, who added 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Golden State will also remain without Iliana Rupert, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season because of her pregnancy.

Fever and Valkyries meet in marquee matchup

Wednesday's game features two of the hottest teams in the league. Indiana has won consecutive games, including its statement victory over Las Vegas, while Golden State has reeled off seven straight wins to strengthen its position near the top of the WNBA standings.

Clark's expected availability means fans should get another opportunity to watch one of the league's biggest stars in a matchup that could have postseason implications later this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, with the game airing nationally on USA Network.
