DigitalGlobe/Getty ImagesMajor wind gusts still posed a threat on Thursday morning as authorities continued to fight blazes including the Palisades fire west of Los Angeles, the Eaton fire north of Pasadena and the Sunset fire in the Hollywood Hills.
The fires have killed at least five people, burned through thousands of acres and destroyed thousands of structures, including historic landmarks such as the Topanga Ranch Motel, a bungalow home built by news publisher William Randolph Hearst in 1929. Almost 180,000 people in the county have been ordered to evacuate, with roughly 200,000 under evacuation warnings, Robert Luna, the Los Angeles County sheriff, said.
