Cape Verde goalie Vozinha earns move to new club after stealing show at 2026 World Cup

After charming the hearts of virtually every World Cup 2026 viewer, Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha is on the move in the club soccer world. After spending the last two seasons in Portugal, the brick wall will soon embark on a flight to Chile and join Colo Colo.

The man in the net of FIFA's official Team of the Tournament is officially set to join the top team of Chile's Primera Division. Colo Colo currently sits 13 points clear of second place, and has only dropped points in three of their sixteen total matches during this season.

After gaining over 29 million Instagram followers during the 2026 World Cup, the Chilean club should be ready for a colossal new batch of fans thanks to Vozinha's signing.

Which club bought Vozinha?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chilean club Colo Colo has won the Vozinha sweepstakes. The Cape Verdean national hero at the 2026 World Cup will travel to the other side of the world to join the current No. 1 side in the Chilean Primera Division. 

Here is the official announcement, per Romano.

As of July 24, Colo Colo sits atop the table with 39 points with a 13W-0D-3L record. They sit 13 points clear of second-place Universidad Catolica. Colo Colo's 13-point lead is the same amount Universidad Catolica is ahead of No. 15 (of 16 total teams) Cobresal.

Vozinha career history

Vozinha began his senior club journey in his home country of Cape Verde, playing for Batuque in July 2009, according to his FotMob profile. He stayed at the club until June 2011. Next, he had a brief stint with Mindelense, a team that won the Cape Verde national title in 2011. The following January, Vozinha moved to Progresso Associacao do Sambizanga of the Angolan league. He spent three and a half years anchoring the backline for Progresso.

In June 2015, the future World Cup goalie made his move to Europe via a free transfer at Moldovan club Zimbru Chisinau. He made 27 appearances for the club. Next was a move to Gil Vicente in Portugal in August 2016. He made 30 appearances before departing for Cyprus in June 2017.

Vozinha's career became its linear trajectory with AEL Limassol in June 2017. In Slovakia, the Cape Verdean saw 140 appearances over five years, including a Cypriot Cup title during the 2018-19 season. In July 2022, Vozinha traveled to Slovakia to suit up for AS Trencin, where he stood between the posts for 37 matches.

In July 2024, the goalkeeper was signed on a free transfer to join Chaves in Portugal. Vozinha made 51 appearances for the club before making way to Colo Colo in Chile following the latest World Cup in July 2026.

For Cape Verde, Vozinha made his debut on September 7, 2012, against Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification. He led the Blue Sharks to a 2-0 upset win at age 26 and went on to make a total of 92 caps since then, according to Transfermarkt.
