Chargers could sign star free agent wide receiver and it's not Keenan Allen

The Los Angeles Chargers have big expectations in 2026.

The team is hoping to finally achieve some postseason success after taking some positive steps over the last couple of seasons. The roster is mostly intact from last season, with new additions like Dalvin Tomlinson, Tyler Biadasz, and David Njoku.

However, even though the team has been more tight end and run-heavy under Jim Harbaugh, they could still use another reliable wide receiver. Much of the talk has been about the Chargers reuniting with Keenan Allen, but there's another free agent receiver the Chargers are very familiar with who could make sense,

Chargers could bring in Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill is still a free agent. The star wide receiver, who had his best seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, is still waiting on his next team after being cut by the Miami Dolphins.

Hill is coming off his worst pro season in 2025, as he played in just four games and ended with 265 yards and just one score. However, the receiver is still one of the best receivers of his generation and seemingly has plenty left in the tank.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently identified the best landing spots for the top free agents, and Knox picked the Chargers for Hill. Regarding that possible pairing, Knox offered the following:

Still, Hill's ability to stretch a defense, when healthy, will keep him on teams' radar throughout the summer and fall. If he doesn't push to sign with a team until later in the season, though, he'll really only make sense for a contender in the midst of a playoff push.

While it's difficult to predict which contenders will be needing receiver help by October or November, a reunion with quarterback Patrick Mahomes or coach Mike McDaniel would certainly seem logical.

As Knox mentioned, assuming health, Hill is still a dangerous weapon. While Knox noted that Hill may want to reunite with Patrick Mahomes, he may also be interested in reunited with coach Mike McDaniel.

Of course, Hill spent several seasons with McDaniel in Miami. That pairing didn't end the best, but they had plenty of success together. In 2023 under McDaniel, Hill led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

Hill also earned two Pro Bowl selections as a Dolphin, and has eight total selections on his resume. The star receiver has had at least 1,000 yards in six different seasons.

In Los Angeles, Hill could be a seamless fit. The Chargers currently have Quentin Johnston, Tre Harris, and Ladd McConkey at receiver, but Hill could come in and be the trusted veteran. Plus, playing for a coach like Harbaugh would probably be good for Hill, and if he wants to contend, there are certainly worse options.
