Charles Cioffi, ‘Shaft’ And ‘The X-Files’ Actor, Dies At 91

Charles Cioffi, a veteran character actor whose credits included the films Shaft, All the Right Moves and Klute, as well as such TV series as The X-Files, Frasier, The Practice and the original version of Hawaii Five-O, has died.

Cioffi died on May 22 of natural causes at his Marina del Rey, Calif., home, the actor’s wife, Anne, told TMZ. He was 90.

Born Charles Michael Cioffi on Oct. 31, 1935, in New York City, the actor got his start on stage before making his screen debut in 1969 in the CBS daytime drama Where the Heart Is. In 1971, Cioffi starred as Lt. Vic Androzzi opposite Richard Roundtree’s private detective John Shaft in Gordon Parks’ landmark crime drama Shaft.

In The X-Files, Cioffi played the recurring role of FBI Section Chief Scott Blevins, a top bureau official who assigned FBI Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) to work with Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) on paranormal cases known as “The X-Files.”

Cioffi appeared in the pilot episode and Episode 4 of The X-Files in Season 1 of the series in 1993, followed by appearances in two episodes of Season 4 in 1996 and two episodes of Season 5 in 1997.
