DeMar DeRozan has been linked to the Miami Heat after a potential buyout

DeMar DeRozan's stint with the Sacramento Kings has not been the best. He has been with the team since 2024, but DeRozan has failed to stand out and lead the Kings to the Western Conference Playoffs.

Now that the Kings are firmly entering a new era, it seems they are looking to buy DeRozan out of his contract. He is owed $25 million for the 2026-27 season, so the Kings might be willing to buy him out and open the door for him to sign with another team.

DeMar DeRozan could be on his way to the Miami Heat after a likely buyout

The Kings have to deal with two massive contracts: DeRozan's $25 million and Zach LaVine's $49 million. While the Kings will probably play out the final year of LaVine's contract, DeRozan's contract is at a good value for a buyout.

Considering DeRozan is already 36, there is limited time for him left in his career. Since the Kings are showing doubt about sticking with him for one more year, his $25 million contract can be bought out.

Now that the rest of the league is aware of DeRozan's situation, plenty of teams have shown interest in signing the six-time NBA All-Star, including the Miami Heat, a team that wants to get players on the cheap due to the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade they pulled off.

The Heat have reportedly been linked to DeRozan numerous times in the offseason, according to the Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman.

It will be an interesting situation to follow because DeRozan is still a fantastic scorer. He might not be the most positive three-point shooter, but he is still a player who can be relied upon to be a go-to scorer.
