The Arizona Diamondbacks are in a little bit of a predicament. While they're a team with a 48-47 record, and a legitimate shot at a postseason spot, they're 12.5 games back in the NL West, and can only reach October baseball through the Wild Card.
Heading into the final day of baseball before the All-Star break, the D-Backs are 3.5 games back of a Wild Card spot. While they could easily climb into contention by the August 3 trade deadline, Arizona could decide to sell this summer.
However, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, if the D-Backs sell, All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte is not likely on the move for a simple reason: He is expected to veto any deal with his no-trade clause.
D-Backs' Ketel Marte expected to veto any trades with a contract clause
"The Diamondback shopped Marte during the winter, but pulled him off the market before spring training," Nightengale writes. "He now has 10-and-5 rights and is expected to veto all trades, which Arizona has told teams."
With the Diamondbacks' second baseman having no intention of accepting any trade, with his plan to vote those deals, it seems apparent that Arizona won't be trading Marte this summer.
He's been in trade rumors for a little while now, and was even actively on the trade block this past offseason. But now, Marte doesn't look likely to go anywhere.

Unless he has a change of heart for some reason, Marte plans to nix any trade made for him, even if Arizona is interested in accepting such a trade.
The three-time All-Star and NLCS MVP is likely to stay in Arizona now, as he plans to veto any and all trade offers for him this summer with his 10-and-5 rights.
While Marte isn't having an All-Star season this year, he's still a great player, hitting 19 homers with a .780 OPS and a 112 OPS_ before the All-Star break.
Signed through the 2030 season on a six-year, $105 million deal, Marte is likely to stay in Arizona for the next four years unless something changes between now and his contract ending in 2030.
