For the entire 2025-26 NBA season, it felt that the Oklahoma City Thunder were on their way to repeating as champions. They were the best team in the regular season, and it felt like no one could stop them early in the season.
Of course, the San Antonio Spurs showed some signs early on as they became the first team to get multiple wins against this Thunder team. However, that also happened in the Playoffs, as the Spurs were the Western Conference's representative in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks.
Draymond Green felt threatened by an OKC Thunder back-to-back
Over the past seven seasons, there has not been a team that has repeated as champions. Many dub it the era of parity because there is a new champion every year. It is a good sign for the league because it seems projects are becoming more and more successful every year.
The Thunder were seen as the team that could end the era of parity. They were the heavy favorites to repeat as champions, becoming the first team to possibly do it since the 2017-18 Golden State Warriors.

Unfortunately for the Thunder, they could not live up to the hype. Warriors mainstay Draymond Green felt threatened by the Thunder's potential repeat, but it ended up not happening for OKC.
"You’re going to put on an act and be like, you know, I don’t really care if OKC wins again or not. Deep down inside, you don’t want to see another team go back-to-back. Like, we did that. We were the last team to do that, right? Like you want to hold on to some of that," Green said about the Thunder potentially threatening the Warriors on his podcast.
It seems the Warriors are still safe as the last team to have repeated as champions. This will most likely change in the future, but in the meantime, the Warriors can still show that they are still one of the most dominant teams in modern history.
