Monday was an expensive night for Caitlin Clark.
Clark led all players with 24 points as the Indiana Fever shook off a slow start to top the Phoenix Mercury in a fiery, physical contest at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
In an eight-second span during the fourth quarter, officials handed out six technical fouls during a sequence that began with a Clark foul on her former teammate DeWanna Bonner. Clark was assessed a technical, her fifth, for "clapping and instigating"as tensions rose with 7:57 left in the game.

Clark didn't mince words postgame and actively lobbied the Fever to appeal the tech, which carries a $1,000 fine and a warning letter from the WNBA as her fifth this season.
Caitlin Clark when asked about receiving her 5th technical foul this season:
"I got a technical for clapping. We should all just go on the calendar now and pick a game that I'm going to be suspended for if I'm going to get technicals for clapping." pic.twitter.com/k5HLOoM2N4
"It's ridiculous, I got a technical for clapping. We should all go on the calendar now and pick a game I'm going to be suspended for if I'm going to get technicals for clapping,” Clark told the media. “If any technical should be taken away, it should be that one. If it's truly for clapping, it's just ridiculous.”
Clark still has some wiggle room before she is handed a one-game suspension. The WNBA will not suspend a player until they receive their eighth technical foul
But Clark's strong reaction to the tech will get a similar reaction out of Fever fans, who always are on Clark's side and were loud all night in the 86-77 victory over the Mercury.
