After teasing its new foldables for weeks, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 lands tomorrow officially at Unpacked in London (read about pricing and new features here). The Korean company is running its typical pre-registration discount, which ends the second the phones are announced, so it's worth claiming now if you plan to pre-order one of the phones.

Reserving costs nothing and doesn’t commit you to buying anything. Sign up now and Samsung guarantees a $30 credit redeemable once pre-orders open, on top of up to $1,230 in total savings in its pre-order deal, which is likely a combination of trade-in prices and some wearable discounts.

Interestingly, Samsung’s pre-release discount doesn’t quite match up to last year’s offer, which might be a sign of the RAM crisis hitting Samsung’s deals.

If that $30 figure sounds lower than you remember, you're not wrong. The Galaxy Z Fold 7's Reserve program offered a $50 sign-up credit last year, so it's a $20 cut.

Samsung’s S-series phones have typically offered $30 store credit for its pre-registration deal, so it looks like Samsung is aligning its two major device lines while saving a bit of cash.

That’s not a huge surprise given what leaks suggested well before the Galaxy S26 even launched: Samsung was expected to pull back on promotions this year because of the memory chip crisis squeezing its margins.

I reported on early signs of that around the S26 Ultra’s launch. There was no double storage deal in the U.S. for Galaxy S26 buyers, and the long-running APP5 discount code was quietly discontinued.

It’s worth noting that the ceiling hasn’t really dropped. Last year’s Fold 7 Reserve program topped out around $1,150 combined savings. This year’s Fold 8 promises up to $1,230. So the guaranteed, no-strings store credit is smaller, but the maximum achievable saving, once you factor in trade-in prices, is seemingly better. How exactly that $1,230 breaks down will be interesting to see.

Galaxy Z Fold 8: What Samsung's S26 Discount History Tells Us

If the Z Fold 8 follows the same pattern as this year’s Galaxy S26, that’s actually reassuring news for anyone waiting on a better deal. The S26 Ultra’s first real discount in April was genuinely underwhelming, at$200 off, which was less generous than the equivalent Galaxy S25 promotion a year earlier.

But Samsung didn’t stay cautious. By late May, that discount had grown to $500 off for the 512GB model. Thus was Samsung's most aggressive S26 Ultra promotion yet, and deals have continued stacking up through the summer since.

A smaller sign-up bonus today doesn’t necessarily mean weaker Z Fold 8 deals overall, it more likely means Samsung is starting cautious and leaving itself room to get more generous once the RAM crisis eases (don’t count your chickens just yet), or competition forces Samsung to slash prices further.

It looks like the company is saving its most aggressive pricing for public holidays, like Memorial Day and likely holding its cheapest price for Black Friday, as it did with the $849 Galaxy S25 Ultra deal last year.
