The Miami Heat have been pretty quiet in NBA free agency, as the team has signed just one external free agent so far in sharpshooter Tim Hardaway Jr.
Hardaway is a fantastic signing by President of Basketball Operations Pat Riley, as the veteran will add some much-needed three-point shooting to Erik Spoelstra's rotation and could play his way into a starting role.
However, the Heat still have a lot of work to do this summer to support Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, and their next move could be reuniting Giannis with one of his most trusted former teammates.
Giannis and Khris Middleton gaining steam
Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reported on Wednesday that Middleton is still a free agent option on the roster for the Heat on a minimum deal. Middleton spent the first half of the 2025 campaign with the Dallas Mavericks and the second half with the Washington Wizards.
Middleton is no longer an All-Star caliber player, but the savvy veteran is still a terrific shooter and would provide Miami with another ball handler.
Though Middleton is getting older, the three-time All-Star is also still a solid defender who would be the perfect 3-and-D player to come off the bench and have alongside Antetokounmpo and Adebayo in certain lineups.
Obviously, what makes Middleton an intriguing target for the Heat is his connection to Antetokounmpo. The pair spent nearly 12 full seasons together with the Milwaukee Bucks and were the catalysts of the team's 2021 championship.
Middleton is past his prime, but he knows how to play with Antetokounmpo, remains a reliable floor-stretcher and ball-handler, and can hold his own on defense. The Heat should look to sign him for cheap and see whether he and Giannis can make another run at a championship, this time in South Beach.
