Golden Knights get update on return of Alex Pietrangelo

The Vegas Golden Knights came up just short in the Stanley Cup Final, falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in six games.

One player they didn't have for the series, or all season long, was Alex Pietrangelo.

The star defenseman sat out the entire campaign for injury reasons, and there's still uncertainty about what his future holds.

ESPN wrote a non-bylined article on Monday that doesn't provide a lot of clarity but does mention that fans can expect there to be an update at some point.

"This offseason might also bring about some clarity on Alex Pietrangelo, who took the 2025-26 season off while recovering from an injury but has indicated that he is attempting to make a comeback," ESPN wrote.

Pietrangelo, in his prime, was one of the league's most well-respected defenseman. He was just very solid, a good leader, and got the job done.

After a long injury layoff, though, there's no way to know what to expect even if he is able to return to the ice.

Pietrangelo's decision could also impact the Vegas salary cap sheet in a big way. He's got a sizable contract, and if he chose to retire that'd have vastly different meaning for the Golden Knights and their money relative to a decision to return.

Hockey fans around the league surely would appreciate seeing Pietrangelo back on the ice and knowing he's OK.

This is a situation, though, that has had a decent amount of mystery surrounding it. While an update is likely coming, there's really no way to know what the next steps will turn out to be for Pietrangelo.
