After trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo, it still feels like the Miami Heat are a few players away from being real contenders.
Not only are they not considered favorites in the Eastern Conference, but I don't think anyone can look at the current Miami roster and think it has much chance of winning a championship.
Unfortunately for the Heat, there aren't a slew of options to go after. They have some assets to make moves, but they aren't exactly in the best position to make another blockbuster trade, meaning they'll have to get creative in any deal they make.
According to the latest report, one player they're showing interest in could fit well alongside Antetokounmpo, as Miami is also interested in making a move for Klay Thompson.
“The Miami Herald and 5 Reasons Sports' Ethan Skolnick have reported that Miami would have strong interest in Thompson if he became a free agent and there would surely be other suitors. The 36-year-old shot nearly 40% from 3-point range last season and slightly above that figure in his first season as a Maverick,” Marc Stein wrote.
Trading for Thompson wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense, so, as Stein touched on, in this scenario the Heat would need Dallas to buy him out.
It remains uncertain whether that will be the case, though previous reports from Stein have suggested they have no interest in doing so at the moment.
