It's Thursday, which means you have the whole weekend to watch some movies. But with so many films to choose from on streaming platforms, it might be hard to find the right one for you and your needs.
So, if you live in America and are in need of a good all-American film, I thought I would round up some of the best movies you can watch during the long 4th of July weekend. All of the films below involve the holiday or American culture in some way. So pick a film, grab a hot dog (or two), and get to watchin'.
Review #1: "Paul Rudd kills at least 2 kids in this movie and that’s why I love cinema."
Review #2: "As soon as Christopher Meloni started shouting about smearing mud on his ass to an H. Jon Benjamin-voiced can of mixed vegetables capable of autofellatio I realized I was watching a piece of truly singular comic genius. Sweater fondlers unite."
Review #1: "This is just Call Me by Your Name except the peaches are replaced with jets that go really fucking fast."
Review #2: "'take my breath away' playing 4 times within a 20 minute window is truly unhinged shit. i fuck with it man."
Review #1: "me before hidden figures : the moon landing is fake me after hidden figures : THE MOON LANDING IS REAL AND HAPPENED BECAUSE OF KATHERINE JOHNSON, DORTHY VAUGHAN, AND MARY JACKSON."
Review #2: "I could watch black women outsmarting white men all day long. (This movie sold out and it was packed and when it was over everyone stood up and clapped.. I really love that.)"
Review #1: "It's sincere and pulpy and comic booky and has a god damn Alan Menken musical sequence. How did I forget how good this is?"
Review #2: "i had totally fogotten how good™ mr james buchanan barnes looked in this but damn mr james buchanan barnes looks so good in this shoutout to him for existing."
Review #1: "This movie is like 10 times more ridiculous than I expected it to be."
Review #2: "Is it really Merica day if you dont watch Will Smith kick alien ass?"
Review #1: "I adore the cast, the barbershop scenes, the pro working class commentary, McDowell’s, the asshole Landis idiot humor, and how this is basically a lewd rom-com with Murphy (and everyone else) just going for it. That opening scene and wedding dance routine are absolutely beautiful. Also, Royal penis cleansing."
Review #2: "This is literally one of the funniest films I have ever seen. Eddie Murphy is a gift."
Review #1: "sean bean: we should steal the declaration of independence! nic cage: we can't steal the declaration of independence! sean bean: then I'll steal it myself! nic cage: not if I steal it first!I love this logic"
Review #2: "76 Exactly the kind of film I fear is missing from Disney's current vocabulary, even as news of a third National Treasure is promising. A good old fashioned PG adventure film, with fun puzzles and a small sprinkling of cryptic freemason jargon. Basically Baby's First Conspiracy."
Review #1: "Felt like a shock to the system after weeks of lazy, passionless filmmaking. It is the story of two wars that never ended - Vietnam and civil rights - and it contains stunning work from Lindo, Majors, Blanchard, and Lee."
Review #2: "last night my mom texted me 'Delroy Lindo' at 10:30pm with nothing else and I have to say that I agree"
Review #1: "It’s impressive how The Sandlot can make all us Letterboxd nerds yearn for a time that none of us even existed in. Obviously, it’s not that we yearn for the 60s, but instead to relive those seemingly meaningless moments of whimsy. That’s what makes this movie special— it’s a time machine to those hot summer days where our friends never left our side. I wish there was a way to know you're in 'the good old days, before you've actually left them.'"
Review #2: "Benny is literally a Christ-like figure."
Review #1: "I mean I know they made a pact and shit but I would’ve told my mom the second I got home, just saying."
Review #2: "what if i said hottest cast ever what then."
11.Forrest Gump — Streaming on Pluto TV, Peacock, and Paramount+
Review #1: "what's up guys i'm fucking crying."
Review #2: "I don’t think this movie is as confused as people claim. The message is pretty simple: Jenny hates her country, protests it, and is punished for it. Lieutenant Dan believes in and is willing to die for his country, and his country doesn’t care at all. You’ve gotta be a stupid idiot who never questions anything, who falls in line working for the system, and only then will you be rewarded. 'But what about Bubba?' Edit: and be white."
