As the father of a toddler, I have become familiar with an array of kids programming as I try, and often fail, to limit screen time. But arguably the best thing I’ve discovered for my son, especially when he was younger? That would be Ms. Rachel, and the YouTube superstar is now coming to Netflix, of all places.

In what I am sure is a huge deal, Ms. Rachel will be putting content on Netflix in the form of a four-episode season on January 27 that is a “a curated compilation of her playful, research-backed videos for every stage of a child’s development, from early language development to phonics and learning to read.” This sounds like this may be pulling things from some of her existing videos, and it does not sound like this will be some wide-upload of putting all her existing YouTube videos, many of which have hundreds of millions of views, on Netflix directly.

Ms. Rachel reportedly gets 400 million views a month and as Forbes estimates, she was one of the top-earning creators in 2024, reportedly ranking in $11.9 million from her videos and other business interests which now also include books and toys. I know this because I own many of them. Here’s what Forbes’ own profile said about Ms. Rachel, and her appeal:

“Although educator Ms. Rachel creates content for kids, her biggest fans are adults. Comments on her TikTok profile (which has 5 million followers) are flooded with parents thanking her for teaching their kids to say "mama" for the first time or for how their babies' faces light up when they hear Ms. Rachel's perfectly executed baby-talk voice. She's received over 2 billion views this past year on her YouTube channel, where she can be found wearing her signature denim overalls, pink shirt, and pink headband. Recently, she's hosted stars like Drew Barrymore and Elmo.”

Netflix has listed the four episodes and what they focus on:

  • Learn to Talk — “What’s in the Box?” Speech and Toddler Learning
  • Baby Learning — First words, Milestones, Nursery Rhymes, and Songs
  • Learn to Read — Phonics, ABCs, and Preschool Learning
  • Hop Little Bunnies — Plus More Songs and Nursery rhymes

Yep, those are certainly the classics, and I am wondering how much will be existing YouTube content and how much will be new. One of the genius aspects of Ms. Rachel is that she can film a small amount of new footage and load up the rest of an hour-long video with a mix of old footage and get a huge amount of watch time regardless. There will be more episodes coming later on in the year, but no date has been announced for those yet. My son, no doubt, cannot wait.
