Aziz Ansari may not have a smartphone, but he's getting by just fine.

The actor and comedian has long embraced a deliberately offline lifestyle. Speaking to People in September 2025, Aziz revealed he doesn't have a smartphone and a lot more than that.

“I have a flip phone,” he said. “I block pretty much every website from my computer. I don't have an email address… I have a landline. I love the landline!”

Now, he's opening up about what that looks like in real time.
During a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew asked whether it was really true that he doesn't own a smartphone or spend much time online.

"It's true," he replied. "I don't have email, and I don't really go on the internet. I just kinda have a flip phone."

Aziz explained that it's "good" for his peace of mind, though he admitted that it can sometimes make everyday tasks "tough." Luckily, his wife, Serena Skov Campbell — a forensic data scientist, whom he married in 2022 — helps him out.

"A lot of times I'll ask her stuff," he said, explaining that she does own a smartphone. "Sometimes, I'll be walking around, and I just gotta call my wife and ask her for directions. I'll be like, I'm here, how do I get there? And she'll help me out."

"That's why you get married!" he added, laughing. Drew agreed, before joking, "Exactly. You support each other and help each other navigate life. Pun intended."

While the two laughed at the moment, many viewers were annoyed, arguing that Aziz's tech-free lifestyle seemed to unfairly put more work on Serena.
"His poor wife..." one person wrote. "Yeah that would totally aggravate me if I was his wife," another commented. "You don't get to say 'oh I don't use technology' yet rely on her to give it to you. Get a phone with internet or don't ask anyone for anything on the internet."

Another called it "terrible advice," saying Aziz was "adding so much work" for his wife.

"He's using her as a cell phone Jesus Christ," someone else wrote.

"So you protect your peace and make your wife mom you... sounds terrible for HER, too bad you're not thinking of protecting her peace," another commenter added.

Others couldn't get over Aziz saying he doesn't even have an email address, especially considering his career. "No email as a professional sounds crazy to me," one person wrote. Another argued that his lifestyle is only possible because he has other people handling those responsibilities, commenting, "This is a luxury when you have a whole team of people who do have emails and smart phones."
