How old will Christian Pulisic, Folarin Balogun, other USMNT stars be in 2030 World Cup?

On Monday night, the United States' World Cup hopes came to a crashing halt as Belgium handed them a 4-1 loss in Seattle.

The USMNT had high hopes to make a deep run as the host of the 2026 World Cup, and it seemed as though the team was prepared to do just that. However, the team was not ready for the moment against a tough Belgium team that has played in many big games throughout the last few decades.

Now, the team must look forward to trying to build off this in four years, when the World Cup returns in 2030. However, the United States will not have the benefit of home games, and much of the roster will be closer to the end of their primes than at the beginning.

Stars like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams have now played in two World Cups, finishing in the Round of 16 both times. For them to make their mark on soccer in the United States, they have one more shot in four years.

How old will USMNT stars be in 2030

Most of the team should be back for the 2030 World Cup, as the only player on the current roster who was older than 32 was defender Tim Ream. Otherwise, much of the team was in the mid-to-high 20s and are currently in the prime of their careers.

Pulisic, McKennie and Adams are all the same age and will enter 2030 likely near the end of their primes, but they will be experienced veterans at 31 by then. Breakout star Folarin Balogun will be 29 years old, and defender Chris Richards will turn 30 ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

Other notable names include Malick Tillman, who has a chance to be a staple on this team and will be in the prime of his career at 28 years old in four years, while Sergiño Dest will also be 29. The youngest player on the 2026 team was Alex Freeman, so he should be a focal point of the 2030 team.

Also of note, goalie Matt Freese will be 31 years old in 2030, and while he might be on the roster, the team may start a new goalie in net.

However, this team will need to add some younger options in the next four years to keep up with dynamic games. No player on the 2026 roster will be younger than 25, and Freeman and backup goalie Chris Brady are the only players who will be younger than 27.
