However, you value runs batted in as an individual hitting statistic; remarkably, one player can match another's RBI total for a season in a game.
That's what Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Ryan O'Hearn did yesterday with Austin Wells.
With O'Hearn's three home runs from yesterday, including a grand slam in the first inning, the left-handed hitter managed to become just the 17th player in baseball's Modern Era to record 10 RBIs in a game.
O'Hearn added two three-run homers in the third and sixth innings. In 319 trips to the plate, O'Hearn has 61 RBIs for the Pirates.
Wells, who has 204 plate apperances this season for the New York Yankees, has just 10 RBIs for the entire season.

I’m not a huge believer in evaluating players based on runs driven in, but stuck on 10 RBI’s on July 8th is unheard of. pic.twitter.com/GXRNmhPrvw
Obviously, it's incredibly rare for a hitter to accomplish what O'Hearn did. But it intensifies the pressure for Wells at the plate. Possibly from a fan's point of view.

It's already been documented that Wells is having one of the worst offensive seasons in Yankees history.
That plays a significant role in why the Yankees plan to target a right-handed-hitting catcher at this year's deadline.
