Is Caitlin Clark on a minutes restriction? Fever star's status amid injury news

1 hour ago 1

Caitlin Clark is probable to return Wednesday night when the Indiana Fever visit the Los Angeles Sparks.

Clark missed the Fever's past two games -- both wins -- as she sat out with a back injury. A week in between games, which separated a home win over the Sparks and a road win over the Las Vegas Aces, proved ample time for the three-time All-Star to recover as the Fever continue a West Coast swing.

Recent results around the league have played into the Fever's hands. At 12-8, Indiana now has the highest winning percentage in the WNBA's Eastern Conference. And seeing as the Fever always has erred on the side of caution with Clark, there is little need to rush her back into action by playing 35 minutes in Los Angeles.

Clark's minutes likely to be monitored on back-to-back

While head coach Stephanie White has yet to indicate one way or the other, logic dictates that the Fever will monitor -- if not restrict -- Clark's minutes on Wednesday and Thursday night.

The Fever has a back-to-back in Los Angeles and in Phoenix against the Mercury before they wrap up the road trip on Sunday with a rematch against the Aces in Las Vegas.

Clark played 32 minutes against the Golden State Valkyries on May 22, the first game after she missed Indiana's win over the Portland Fire two days earlier. She has played at least 30 minutes in 12 of her 17 appearances this season, in which she is averaging a career-best 21.2 points per game.

The ideal outcome for the Fever would be a sound win against the Sparks that would allow White to keep Clark's minutes around the 20-25 mark. That would give Indiana some flexibility to push Clark past 30 minutes against the Mercury the following night.
