Is Cameron Brink on a minutes restriction? Sparks star's status update amid injury news

1 hour ago 1

Cameron Brink is back.

Los Angeles Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts announced Wednesday that Brink will return after an eight-game absence when the Sparks visit the Minnesota Lynx in a noon tip-off from Target Center.

Brink has not played in a month after she sustained a left ankle injury in a loss to the Golden State Valkyries. Her return is welcome news to a Sparks team that has been banged up of late; All-Star point guard Kelsey Plum remains out with a lower leg injury.

Brink's minutes will be monitored

Roberts told reporters that while she is "thrilled" to welcome back Brink, she will be on a minutes restriction in Minneapolis against the WNBA-best Lynx.

Cameron Brink update:

"I'm thrilled that Cam is available today," Sparks coach Lynne Roberts told me during pregame media availability. "She'll be on a minutes restriction today."

Coach Roberts said she wants to see presence, rebounding and rim protection from Brink vs. Lynx.

Roberts will be looking for Brink to add rebounding and rim protection against Olivia Miles and the Lynx, who won their first matchup against the Sparks last month.

Brink's 109 defensive rating this season is the worst of her three-year career, though she remains one of the WNBA's best shot-blockers with 1.5 rejections per game.

For the season, Brink is averaging a career-best 9.2 points in 17.5 minutes per game. She is shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and 34.4 percent from 3-point range, the best mark of her 48-game pro career.
