"It Felt Like I Was Observing Myself": People Are Sharing The Things That “Only Happen In Movies” That Actually Happened To Them In Real Life, And It’s Like An Episode Of “The Truman Show”

There are moments in movies where I think to myself, "Yeah, that would never happen in real life". Turns out, sometimes it absolutely does.

User boltsJyanara83X on Reddit asked, "What’s something you thought only happens in movies until it happened to you?" and some of these responses are unreal:

"Locking eyes with someone across a room and instantly feeling something weirdly intense. I used to think that was cheesy movie nonsense until it actually happened to me once."

"Bumping into your ex at the airport years later. The whole 'you’re living different lives in different worlds, yet the universe still finds a way to remind you of a past life' thing. Note that we lived in different states when we were together, and I bumped into them at passport control as we walked out. It was the most random and specific time and place to run into someone."

"I moved to Arizona from the Midwest. A tumbleweed rolled across the road in front of me. I thought that only happened in old Western movie towns."

Stri-Daddy

"Car chases. My family got followed out of Rome by two guys in a black car. They followed us for two hours, stopped everywhere we stopped, and made every same turn. We finally tried to lose them, which made them realize the jig was up. They went from following at a safe distance to weaving through traffic and tailgating our van. We finally lost them by passing two big trucks on a shoulder and hiding under an overpass. Probably the closest I've come to dying (or worse)."

"Getting bad news on the phone and literally crumpling to the ground sobbing. I dissociated in the moment, and it felt like I was observing myself."

4LostSoulsinaBowl

"Running my nearly unconscious boyfriend into an ER, yelling, 'I need a doctor!' as he was bleeding out. (He is okay now)."

oogleboogleboiga

"Time slows to a crawl, just as the realization hits you that the cars in front of you are about to collide."

Tadpole_RKA

"Moving to a small town and pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. It may not be a Hallmark special, but it’s getting prettyyyyy close, lol."

"Parties. I thought what you saw in movies was exaggerated. I was an innocent kid who both opted out and lived in a small town, so I never got a taste of it. My first party was in college at a friend's house. Dudes were playing guitar, people were having deep conversations and there was commotion and activity everywhere. People jumped off the roof and had to go to the hospital. It set my expectations high. Then I went back to my theater friends in a small town, where 'partying' meant having drinks and watching a musical. Still fun, but quite different."

LukesFather

"You know that thing in movies where a pregnant woman's water breaks suddenly and dramatically? Every doctor, nurse and midwife said that never happens in real life. Well guess what?"

centaurquestions

"Being in a very crowded lobby and having a single person stand out like they have a spotlight on them."

FoxFace1111

"When you're talking about someone, being funny and on a roll with an impersonation that’s spot-on — oh no, they're right behind me, aren’t they?"

horsethecam

"Walking into a small local business as a stranger and having all conversation and activities stop dead while everyone sizes you up."

MoukinKage

"Finding out as an adult that my dad was actually a terrible person who had had multiple affairs and, when I was 8, had a love child with a close family friend whom I grew up with and took care of all the time. Then realizing that the church he led, and that I was born into, was actually a cult."

ProvePoetsWrong

"A meet-cute. I never had much luck with girls, but I met my now-wife while we were volunteering at an after-school kids program. It was exhilarating having a cute girl actually like me back."

FunInstance7352

"Dogs burying bones in the backyard. My parents were having some landscaping work done when I was a kid. One of the dogs got really hyperfixated on one particular spot. Just nonstop digging. He eventually pulled up one of the most gnarly-looking rawhides I have ever seen."

iggybu

"I was handed a business card with a cute guy’s name and personal cell number on the back as the elevator doors closed on a Friday. It was the smoothest thing I’d ever seen. After several dates, he admitted it was the smoothest thing he’d ever done."

Lady_Wingdom1919

"My family and I did that whole mad dash to the airport like in Home Alone."

donotgotoroom237

"Running after the one you love just in time before they board the plane."
