Jacob Markstrom trade rumors could help Oilers, Panthers, Sabres

There are a lot of teams looking for goalie help this offseason.

Conceptually, there aren't as many goaltenders available on the trade market, though. That makes any rumor of an available player, like Jacob Markstrom, particularly notable.

That was the news that came out on Sunday when ESPN's Kevin Weekes shared an update that Markstrom could be available in a deal:

Per sources, although a deal isn’t imminent , I’m told the @NJDevils are
gauging market interest from clubs on

So where could Markstrom go?

Well, just find teams that could use goalies: The Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres all fit the bill.

The Oilers are going to be a popularly rumored team for all the goalies that might be on the market.

The Panthers will depend more on whether Sergei Bobrovsky decides to re-sign there or ends up somewhere else.

The Sabres have a lot of goalie depth, but they also could be looking for a clearer answer at the position.

Markstrom is 36 years old and wouldn't be a clear starter, but he also could be a quality goaltending option somewhere.

He had an 88.3 save percentage in 2025-26 with the Devils and a 3.07 goals against average, but he's been better than that in his career.

He wouldn't cost a ton in a deal, so it's worth considering what could come next for him. At least a few teams should be interested.
