Jake Bennett is proving the Red Sox won their trade with the Nationals after dominant stretch

The Boston Red Sox are on a roll recently, winning eight of their last 10 games. This is majorly due to their starting pitching, which has been relatively lights out recently.

One of the most underrated names in their rotation has been Jake Bennett, who was just called up this year. His first stint with the team was a learning experience, but ever since then, he’s been a dominant force for Boston.

Since June 10th, Bennett has been elite for Boston. In his five starts since returning, he’s posted a 2-2 record, a 2.67 ERA with a 2.58 FIP,  27 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.980 over 30 innings pitched. He also has a 1.1 fWAR, the highest of all pitchers in baseball.

On the season, he has posted a 3-3 record, a 3.10 ERA, 31 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.984 over 40 innings pitched. If his team had helped him more offensively in his starts, he would be a truly elite pitcher for Boston.

Bennett isn’t even a homegrown pitcher for the Red Sox, either. Boston acquired him when he was the No. 11 prospect for the Washington Nationals, and sent their No. 7 in right-handed pitcher Luis Perales in return for him.

Bennett was clearly a win for Boston, but Perales hasn’t done anything for Washington. He’s still in AAA Rochester, and has posted a 2-4 record, a 3.94 ERA, 55 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.234 over 64 innings pitched.

Perales might be successful for Washington in the future, but right now, Boston clearly won this trade.

With the injuries of Garrett Crochet, Connelly Early, and possibly Ranger Suarez, Boston’s solid rotation has a lot of openings. This means Bennett’s place isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, which is fine by Boston.

Hopefully, the Red Sox rally around him offensively during his starts from now on, so Boston can finally capitalize on the quality starts Bennett has been giving them.
