Jake Paul claims NFL teams are interested in him while slamming ‘super mediocrity’ in league

As Logan Paul is locked into an almost certainly contrived feud with Tom Brady, his brother has his eyes on the sport Brady dominated for more than two decades.

Jake Paul is floating the idea of playing in the NFL, even claiming he's received interest from teams and dismissing some of the league's talent.

Paul, who went from a YouTuber and actor to a successful boxer, is a lifelong Browns fan — but one would have to imagine he's open to any NFL interest he might receive.

Here's what Paul had to say about a potential move to the NFL.

Jake Paul claims NFL teams are interested in him

Paul told Front Office Sports that he has received NFL interest as he contemplates a move from boxing to football at some point.

"I have a couple teams and coaches that I've already talked to who are interested in bringing me on to the team," Paul said, though he referred to a prospective NFL career as something he would do "after boxing."

There is no indication that he is planning to retire from boxing in the immediate future, so his age could work against him as he approaches his 30th birthday. Still, Paul believes he has an advantage over a number of current NFL players.

"I think there's a lot of super-mediocrity in the NFL, a lot of not good athletes, a lot of people dropping passes on a consistent basis," Paul said. "I have better hands than them, I'm faster than them, I'm stronger than them, I work harder than them."

Paul said he simply has to "practice some routes" to prepare himself for the NFL, which indicates he is looking to be either a wide receiver or tight end. 

Asked for his dream NFL team, Paul said he would love to play for his hometown Browns. In June, Paul said the Cowboys were also interested in him and even floated the idea of walking on with a college program to showcase himself for NFL teams.

Has Jake Paul played football?

It isn't clear whether Paul played football growing up, but even if he played at the high school level, it's been a long time since he was on the field. Paul dropped out of Westlake High School after two years and is now 29, so he would be attempting to get to the NFL at least 13 years after last playing competitively.

What NFL teams would be interested in Jake Paul?

Paul said he has two particular teams on his wish list: the Browns and Cowboys. Paul is a lifelong Browns fan and Ohio native, while the allure of the Cowboys unsurprisingly appeals to him.

Would either team actually be interested in him? That's a considerably different question. NFL teams aren't necessarily afraid to experiment with players who take unconventional paths to football, but Paul's age is something that would likely work against him the longer he waits. Paul will be 30 in January, and it's much more difficult to mold a player in their 30s than a 22-year-old who hasn't put his body through the rigors of boxing.

The Browns haven't shied away from controversial figures, while Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is never afraid of some extra attention. If Paul is seriously looking to make a move to the NFL, he might be looking at the right organizations.
