So it was quite shocking when Jenna walked away from the franchise's seventh installment in 2023, shortly after Scream co-star Melissa Barrera was fired for vocally supporting Palestine.

At the time, scheduling conflicts with filming Wednesday was cited as the official reason why — but in a new interview with The Cut, Jenna reveals that it was Melissa's firing that played a large role in her Scream VII exit.

“It had nothing to do with pay or scheduling,” Jenna said, explaining that “the Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart."
