Jets trade tiers reveal what rising star David Bailey could be worth

2 hours ago 2

The New York Jets made a very popular choice when they selected edge rusher David Bailey with their No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Sure, the NFL is usually filled with people who will criticize every draft move. But, for the Bailey pick, the chatter was mostly positive.

Bailey is even seen as a favorite, albeit an early one, for Defensive Rookie of the Year. He's already a fan favorite in New York.

But, the offseason is filled with downtime, so NFL reporters like to venture into the world of what could happen but probably won't in the league. With September still a few months away and only training camp up ahead, how better to fill the calendar space?

New York Jets trade value for David Bailey revealed

In a feature out on Thursday, Bill Barnwell of ESPN names what his research says each NFL team could get in return for their current trade options. For Bailey, he believes the Jets could get one first-round pick and more.

He says that while Bailey "came close to the two first-round pick category for me," the player's "concerns holding up against the run might give teams that want to play with light boxes and ask more out of their edge defenders on early downs some pause."

So, Bailey's worth, in his eyes, is some extras on top of a first-round pick. But, the Jets aren't going to trade their rising star. While the Jets can technically trade Bailey this offseason, because he already inked his rookie deal in May, a trade would mean financial penalties, which Aaron Glenn and company don't want. The Jets would also lose Bailey's fully guaranteed rookie signing bonus. So, don't hold your breath for this move.
