Jordan Devey death details: What we know about former NFL guard's sudden passing

Former NFL offensive lineman Jordan Devey died at age 38, his family announced Thursday.

A GoFundMe page established after Devey's death said he died by suicide. Per ESPN, Devey died on Tuesday, July 21.

Devey played in the NFL from 2013-20, including winning a Super Bowl title with the New England Patriots in the 2014 season.

A GoFundMe page established to support Devey's family said that the former NFL guard died by suicide. 

"Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time," the GoFundMe page reads.

Per ESPN, Devey died on Tuesday at age 38. His wife, Linsey Devey, also confirmed his death on Thursday with a post to social media that said he died days before the couple's 15th anniversary.

"Today would have been our 15th year anniversary,” Linsey Devey wrote in an Instagram post. “We have filled the walls of our homes and hearts with countless memories, joys, struggles, and triumphs. We brought 4 beautiful children into this world that have your eyes, freckles, and compassion,” she continued. You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, ‘We’ll talk soon.'"

Per ESPN, Jordan Devey's mother, Leslie, told Fox 13 that the family "believed that he suffered from CTE" but will not be able to test for the neurodegenerative disease based on nature of Devey's death.

Devey's NFL career included five teams in seven seasons, appearing in 44 games and seven for the 2014 Patriots, who won the Super Bowl. He also appeared 15 games for the 49ers in 2015, later retiring in 2021 after a stint with the Bills. The Raiders, the team Devey played for in 2019, released a statement on his death Friday.

Devey died by suicide, his family said, including a GoFundMe page established following his death. 

Devey's mother, Leslie, also told Fox13 that the family believed he "possibly suffered from CTE" and was "fighting a battle none of his loved ones ever saw," but the family will not be able to test for CTE due to the nature of his death.
