Julian Champagnie reveals his ultimate goal after securing Spurs extension

Since arriving in San Antonio, Julian Champagnie has established himself as a valuable piece alongside franchise cornerstone Victor Wembanyama. As his role continues to grow, Champagnie has made it clear he hopes his future remains in San Antonio for years to come.

During a recent interview, the 24-year-old expressed his gratitude toward the organization and revealed that his goal is to spend the remainder of his NBA career with the Spurs.

“I appreciate (the Spurs) to the fullest. Obviously I’ve been here for 3 and a half years now, hopefully I’m here for the rest of my playing career. I love it here, it’s the best,” Champagnie said.

“The big fella’s here to stay, I’m here to stay, got the same team back, couple of additions, so it’s going to be pretty good.”

Last month, Champagnie was rewarded for his steady development by signing a three-year, $45 million contract extension with the Spurs. Instead of exercising his modest $3 million team option for the 2026-27 season, San Antonio chose to immediately offer him a significantly improved deal. The extension keeps him under contract through the 2028-29 season and carries an average annual salary of approximately $15 million.

Champagnie appeared in all 82 regular-season games last season. His streak of 185 consecutive games played is currently the second-longest active streak in the NBA. During the 2025-26 campaign, he averaged 11.1 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting an efficient 38.1% from beyond the arc.

The forward's journey to this point has been anything but ordinary. After going undrafted, Champagnie struggled to find an NBA opportunity before the Spurs gave him a chance to prove himself.

That opportunity changed the trajectory of his career. After establishing himself as an important part of San Antonio's young core, he now hopes his relationship with the franchise lasts for the rest of his playing career.
