Knicks’ Josh Hart continues to prove why he’s the team’s ultimate difference-maker

When discussing the New York Knicks’ success, most conversations begin with Jalen Brunson’s scoring, Karl-Anthony Towns’ versatility, or OG Anunoby’s defense. But according to head coach Mike Brown, one of the team’s most valuable players is often the one whose impact cannot be fully measured by statistics: Josh Hart.

“Josh impacted the game in so many different ways for us,” Brown said after the Knicks’ recent NBA Finals victory. “When you look at what he shot from the field, you wouldn’t think that he was probably the most impactful guy in the game.”

That sentiment has become a common theme throughout New York’s playoff run. Hart’s ability to rebound, defend multiple positions, facilitate offense, and make winning plays has made him indispensable to a Knicks team that sits one victory away from its first NBA championship since 1973.

Brunson echoed Brown’s praise when discussing his longtime teammate.

“That’s just who he is,” Brunson said. “He’s always been that way. He just has a knack for doing things like that, and in crucial times, as well.”

Hart is team’s heartbeat

The numbers only tell part of the story. Hart averaged 12.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.8. assists during the 2025-26 regular season while shooting better than 50 percent from the field. Those statistics place him among the league’s most productive all-around guards.

Yet Hart’s true value often comes in hustle plays that never appear in a traditional box score. Whether diving for loose balls, securing critical offensive rebounds, defending star players, or pushing the pace in transition, Hart consistently provides the energy that fuels New York’s identity.

His influence has been evident throughout the postseason. Hart delivered a playoff career-high 26 points in the Eastern Conference Finals and has repeatedly made momentum-changing plays that help the Knicks win close games.

For a Knicks team built on toughness and teamwork, Hart represents the heart and soul of the roster. While others may receive the headlines, his impact remains one of the biggest reasons New York stands on the brink of basketball history.
