Lakers given Jonathan Kuminga update that would hurt Los Angeles if he’s a star

The Los Angeles Lakers, still searching for more talent, have been linked to multiple players over the past few weeks. There are still some questions about whom the Lakers will target, though Jonathan Kuminga seems to be at the top of the priority list.

It's very tough to say that Los Angeles is a perfect suitor for Kuminga, but it probably doesn't have many better options to go after. That's something the Lakers have to consider here, especially in a sign-and-trade, depending on how much money he could get.

According to the latest report, there's still an expectation that Kuminga will land with the Lakers, but the question now is when it will happen and how much the Lakers will have to give up.

“Among those top players is Jonathan Kuminga, who is still expected to land with the Lakers, though it is a matter of when and how–and how much money he gets. A sign-and-trade would require that Kuminga gets at least three years, though there can be options and non-guarantees after the first year. That’s most likely how this plays out–Kuminga might want to be able to get back into free agency if he plays well next season,” Sean Deveney wrote.

The one thing I hope the Lakers don't do here is bring in Kuminga to be something that he isn't.

Again, he's a decent player in his own right, but there's a reason why he'll be on his third team in less than a year. He isn't going to be this perfect player who does everything the Lakers need him to do.
