Unsurprisingly, all signs seem to point to the Los Angeles Lakers agreeing to a new deal with 41-year-old forward LeBron James.
ESPN’s Marc J. Spears Wednesday afternoon report indicated that, as it noted that the odds of James returning to Los Angeles for what could be his final NBA season are high.
Interestingly, Spears also noted that the Lakers could reunite James with his former Cleveland Cavaliers NBA champion teammate, known for stopping Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry during a pivotal moment in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals.
"I'm hearing that (LeBron's) likely coming back (to the Lakers),” Spears said. “Kevin Love could likely be joining the Lakers, too."
Love isn’t the electric forward he was in his prime, but he can still be a useful perimeter shooting weapon in his late 30s. The UCLA product averaged 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game with the Utah Jazz this season, shooting 39.7% from the field and 37.3% from beyond the arc in 37 contests.
Love, who recently reunited with James and various other members of the history-making 2015-16 Cavaliers squad in the United Kingdom, would likely be overjoyed to receive a late-career opportunity to team up with the future Hall of Famer again.
The Lakers need more floor spacing in an offensive system that offers plenty of drive-and-kick opportunities to capable three-point shooters, and Love fits the bill, making him compatible with the franchise's desired play style.
