Lakers reportedly set to reunite with LeBron James, add beloved Finals teammate to seal deal

LeBron James is the biggest storyline of this offseason, as many are wondering whether he will retire or return for another season. He remains one of the most sought-after names in free agency discussions.

James has reached the playoffs with the Lakers multiple times, and that remains his primary goal. After being eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder, he emphasized that his next decision would be a family matter.

“With my future, I don't know," James said after Game 4. "Obviously still fresh from losing. I don't know. I don't know what the future holds for me, obviously. As it stands right now tonight, I've got a lot of time. I'll sit back like I think I said last year after we lost to Minnesota, I'll go back and recalibrate with my family and talk with them and spend some time with them. When the time comes, obviously, you guys will know what I decide to do."

Over the past few days, new reports have emerged regarding James. It appears he has been in discussions with the Lakers.

“I think LeBron's intention is to play and I think the focus right now is making a deal with the Lakers," ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said. "Right now, he's allowed to negotiate with the Lakers and I believe they are negotiating, I believe they're going back and forth."

Not only is James likely to remain in Los Angeles, but ESPN’s Marc J. Spears also reported that Kevin Love could be joining him.

“I'm hearing that [LeBron's] likely coming back [to the Lakers]. ... Kevin Love could likely be joining the Lakers too,” Spears said.

James and Love were teammates together in Cleveland, where they built a strong relationship that has carried over since. It is fair to say Love is one of James’ closest former teammates.

While Love no longer plays a major on-court role, bringing him in could help facilitate a deal with James. Their existing chemistry would benefit the Lakers, and Love would provide valuable leadership in the locker room. It would be a fitting reunion for two players who shared significant success earlier in their careers.
