Last time Scottie Scheffler missed the cut: Golf star's threat to beat Tiger Woods record ends at Scottish Open

1 hour ago 2

For the past few years, Scottie Scheffler's dominance has permeated the PGA Tour in many ways, including making every cut since the end of the 2022 season. However, that streak finally came to an end on Friday.

Scheffler officially missed the cut at the Scottish Open, ending the PGA Tour's longest active consecutive cuts-made streak at 78, the fifth-longest streak in PGA Tour history. While the PGA Tour has used some no-cut events in recent years, Scheffler's streak was far ahead of everyone else on the list.

The 2026 season hasn't been Scheffler's best, as his lone win on the year came at the first event of the season in 2022, but he still has seven other top-five finishes on the year. This result is not only Schefflers' worst of the season, though, it's his worst in almost four years of golf.

Here's a look at when Scheffler last missed a cut in a golf tournament.

At the time, Scheffler had just won his first major at the 2022 Masters, but he wasn't the dominant player that he has become since. A lot has changed in the sports world in the almost-four years since Scheffler last missed a cut, including Jalen Brunson just signing with the Knicks and both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner having not won a single grand slam title between the two.

Matt Fitzpatrick now takes the mantle for the longest active consecutive cuts-made streak, as he extends his run to 28 straight events at the Scottish Open. Hideki Matsuyama, Cameron Young, and Ryo Hisatsune all skipped the event this week, keeping their streaks intact, while Rory McIlroy enters the top five by making the Scottish Open cut.

Scheffler was active leader in this category for just over five months after Xander Schauffele missed his first cut in 72 events at the end of January.

Tiger Woods consecutive cuts made record

From 1998-2005, Tiger Woods made 142 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour, which is easily the most in Tour history. Woods became just the third golfer ever to reach 100 straight made cuts, joining Byron Nelson and Jack Nicklaus, and he finished with 29 more cuts than Nelson's 113, the second-most on the all-time list.

Since Woods' streak ended in 2005, only Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler have produced streaks long enough to possibly threaten it. However, both those streaks ended just slightly over halfway to Woods' total of 142, which shows just how impressive his streak truly is.
