2026 NBA free agency has slowed down a bit, but the decision on where LeBron James will play this year has yet to come.
With James informing the Los Angeles Lakers that he will play elsewhere, many teams have begun showing interest in the future Hall of Famer, in what could be the final season of his illustrious career.
James is reportedly focused on happiness over money as he mulls his decision, which has opened the door for franchises with limited cap space to show interest in him. One of those teams happens to be the defending champions.
Knicks showing interest in LeBron James
During a live stream with Bleacher Report, The Stein Line NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the New York Knicks have shown interest in James.
"The Knicks have shown some interest in LeBron James," Fischer said. "That's the word we just got back right now."
New York doesn't have much money, but if James is willing to take a pay cut, the NBA champions can offer him the $6 million taxpayer-mid-level exception.
Joining the Knicks would give James his best chance to potentially leave basketball on top. Outside of losing center Mitchell Robinson in free agency to the Boston Celtics, New York is basically bringing back their championship squad.
James can slide right into the starting small forward or power forward spot, and form a dynamic big three with Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. Additionally, adding James would give the Knicks one of the best collections of wings we've ever seen, as the 41-year-old would be joining Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart at that wing position.
New York has entered their name into the James sweepstakes, and though it doesn't seem likely that the Knicks will land the 22-time All-Star, anything can happen in the NBA. We'll just have to wait and see when LeBron makes his highly anticipated decision.
