The anticipation is sky-high over which team LeBron James will end up playing for in the golden days of his career. He's 41, but age is really just a number when it comes to James, and teams have been clamoring to make pitching to the NBA star to join their franchise for his final years in the league.
Earlier this week, Golden State Warriors basketball coach Steve Kerr made some comments that got the attention of those on James watch. He was caught on camera responding to Warriors fans asking him to sign James. "Oh, we got him," he replied, as shared by Legion Hoops on X.
Of course, that got people buzzing. The Warriors are already one of the teams James has been heavily linked to, so while his comments seemed in jest, they could have also been taken seriously.
LeBron James to the Warriors? Steve Kerr's 'Oh, we got him' comment explained
So, was the video of Kerr saying, "Oh, we got him," real? According to a new report, it was certainly real. But that doesn't mean he was serious about the comment.
Devon Henderson and Nick Friedell of The Athletic note in a feature out on Thursday that "several Warriors officials" have "verified that it was indeed Kerr in the video shot Tuesday" and not a fake. But, they add that "the veteran coach was just doing what he has always done, using his humor to answer a question from a fan that the Warriors, and the rest of the NBA, still don't have an answer for themselves."
They add that "the Warriors remain hopeful that James may eventually choose to play for them, but in this particular instance, Kerr was just using his same quick-witted humor for this viral exchange."
So, the Warriors are still on the table, but it's not a done deal. James has also heavily been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves, and the list just keeps getting bigger.
