“Lost” Star Sam Anderson Revealed That Fans Get So Uneasy After Seeing Him In This Particular Setting, And If You’ve Seen The Show, You’ll Totally Get It

Honestly, I’d feel the same way.

🚨 Spoilers for Lost ahead.

While it was airing, Lost was supremely popular — and even now, the show has a huge cult following. And if you’re a fan, you’ll definitely remember the happy reunions in Season 2, which saw fan favorites Rose (played by L. Scott Caldwell) and Bernard (Sam Anderson) find each other after almost 50 days of separation. Ne’er an eye was dry on that island.

Bernard, who was played by Sam Anderson, was presumed dead until the second season of the show. And for Sam, joining the cast of Lost “changed everything” for him regarding his career.

One thing that Sam particularly loved was how the show "normalized" Bernard and Rose's interracial relationship. “I think many people thought that someplace along the line, we were going to do an episode about race,” he told Variety in a new interview. “And they never did — they normalized it. We were just two people incredibly in love.”

But despite the beautiful relationship between Bernard and Rose, Sam revealed that there was a surprising — albeit pretty entertaining — downside to being in the show. While recognizing an actor is exciting just about anywhere, Sam explained that fans who saw him on airplanes would often react in the opposite way. “Sometimes [L. Scott Caldwell] and I would be traveling on the same flight,” Sam said. “And as we walked on, we’d see people’s faces like, ‘Get me off this plane, it’s gonna crash!’”

And you know what? Fair enough. I’d probably be stressed the whole time, too. Love Roseard down, but I’d probably see them as harbingers of doom on a Boeing 737. Sam also said that reactions on flights weren’t the only downside to starring in the show, and that the show’s infamously ambiguous ending was also a constant question.

While to many, the show’s ending was pretty straightforward, it definitely left some fans confused. Sam revealed that he’d get inundated with questions about whether the island was purgatory and if the characters had been dead since the plane crashed. Which — SPOILERS — is not really the case. However, Sam explained that even he wasn’t 100% clear on the ending himself, and had to ask his 14-year-old son for confirmation. Thankfully, his son knew what was up and reassured his dad that no, the characters were not dead the whole time.
