Good things often come to an end, even when they don't have to. The longest-tenured Boston Celtics member is now set to depart the team. Jaylen Brown has been traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, along with two first-round picks and two second-round picks. It's a move that still leaves fans scratching their heads, especially after Brad Stevens saw how much Brown grew with Jayson Tatum as a running mate. So just how high has he climbed in the all-time rankings? Let's take a stroll down memory lane in Beantown.
All of Brown's records with the Celtics
Jaylen Brown was a clear target that Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge had in the 2016 NBA Draft. They picked him third overall, and the rest has been history. That same night, he made huge promises that eventually were fulfilled.
The most resounding proclamation he made on draft night has to be, "I'm going to war for this city." Brown did exactly that every night for a decade while wearing the jersey that Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Paul Pierce, and Bill Auerbach established.
Brown's all-time Celtics records
Currently, Brown sits 10th all-time in the Celtics scoring list with his 13,474 career points. The people above him in the top three are scoring legends like John Havlicek (26,395 points), Paul Pierce (24,021 points), and Larry Bird (21,791 points). Getting the ball through the basket was clearly Brown's specialty, too. The Celtics have seen him average 20 points per game, which ranks eighth all-time on the franchise scoring list. His 7.5 field goals per game also sit ninth among all Celtics legends, per Basketball Reference..
Brown was also not just a downhill scorer. He played on all three levels of scoring. He attempted 5.3 three-point field goals per game, which ranks sixth among all Celtics, and also knocks down 1.9 three-pointers on average, which is good for eighth in the franchise. When was his scoring peak? Unfortunately for Celtics fans, it was his 2025-26 campaign when he averaged 28.7 points per game and finished sixth in NBA MVP voting. Due to Jayson Tatum not being in the rotation for the majority of this run, he also had a 36.2 usage percentage. This is the highest all-time by a Celtics player; it ranks more than Isaiah Thomas' 34 usage percentage in 2016-17 and Paul Pierce's 2002-03 stints. This is also not the last time Brown topped the Celtics' all-time leaderboards. His NBA MVP run also saw him record the highest field-goal percentage in Celtics history (10.8 field goals per 36 minutes).
Can’t sleep. Can’t believe it’s real.
Jaylen Brown is really a Philadelphia 76er… NBA Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown. That dude. Boston traded him to us for pennies on the dollar.

Defensively, Brown was also a beast during his Celtics stint. He has the eighth-most defensive rebounds; his 3,013 rebounds beat out both Kevin Garnett and Al Horford. On-ball defense was also his strong suit. Brown got 684 steals throughout his Celtics run, which gets him the seventh spot in the franchise leaderboards. This helped Brown get his sixth career triple-double, which ties him with Dave Cowens for the eighth-most in Celtics history.
Along with the high usage rates and playing times, there are obviously some big drawbacks too. Brown turned the ball over 1,536 times throughout his time with Brad Stevens and the Celtics. This makes him have the sixth-most turnovers in franchise history. When crunched, his 2025-26 run also made him have the most turnovers per 36 minutes (3.8 turnovers) and turnovers per 100 possessions (5.4) in Celtics history.
Brown's historical NBA records
The Celtics' graph of success skyrocketed into a straight line upward when Jaylen Brown was drafted out of the Cal Golden Bears program. Since the 2016-17 season, he holds the most career all-time combined record of wins in the regular season and playoffs. His 523 wins, comprised of 443 regular-season and 80 postseason victories, are the most in league history in a span of a decade.
Unsurprisingly, this also means that Brown got one of the most expensive contracts of all time. In 2023, Brad Stevens signed him to a five-year contract, which is valued at $304 million. This was the largest recorded deal in league history but was quickly usurped by other players. As of now, Jayson Tatum holds the most expensive deal ever at $313,933,410. When looking at the annual average value, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander holds the record with a whopping $67,914,000 deal.

— CelticsUnite (@CelticsUnite18) July 1, 2026A lot of great things happened to the Celtics when Brown was around the franchise, whether it was his incredible rookie run, 2024 Finals MVP explosion to his last hurrah as an NBA MVP candidate. It was unfortunate that the person with the second-highest contract valuation of all time and the 10th-best scorer in Celtics history had to be traded to the 76ers. More importantly, the franchise lost someone who vicariously fought for them no matter the trade rumors and adjustments. TD Garden and Joe Mazzulla's dunker spot schemes will surely feel like they're missing something moving forward. It was a pleasure to see Brown don the legendary green jersey and cheer him on to war every night.
Always love and trust, JB.
