Mariners tumble down the power rankings after a frustrating week

The Seattle Mariners are doing their best to get back into the postseason this year after going on a run last season. They have the pieces to do so, but it hasn't been all that easy this year.

Despite having one of the best starting rotations in the league, Seattle is one game under .500 as MLB takes a break for All-Star activities.

The offense is the thing holding this team back, sitting with a .230 team batting average, which is the 27th-worst across MLB, and a team OPS of .690, which ranks them 26th.

Luckily for the Mariners, they are still in the thick of things in the AL West. They sit just 1.5 games behind the Texas Rangers, who lead the division.

However, they could have been leading the division if not for a poor week last week. They got swept by the Miami Marlins before losing the following series 1-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays.

With the frustrating week, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller takes this team from No. 11 to No. 18 in his latest power rankings.

"The Mariners' karma swung hard this week, as a 5-1 homestand against the Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays gave way to an equal but opposite 1-5 road trip against the Marlins and Rays. Adding injury to insult, Emerson Hancock was pulled in the second inning of Sunday's start after taking a 107 MPH comebacker off his pitching hand in the first inning. With any luck, though, opening the second half at home against the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds will cure what ails them."

Seattle will have to get the bats working after the All-Star break. If they miss the postseason with the state the division is in this season, it's going to feel like a wasted opportunity for a team that is strong on paper.
