‘Marvel Rivals’ Reveals How Many Heroes It Will Release As Seasons Continue

Marvel Rivals has been pretty explicit about the idea that season 1 of the game is a double-sized season, and we should not expect quite this much content in the future. That said, even half of what the game is putting out is still double or more of what similar games in the hero genre are doing.

While Mister Fantastic and The Invisible Woman arrived with season 1, we know that Human Torch and The Thing will be arriving a month and a half later in February. Now, NetEase has confirmed that the plan from here is to release two heroes a season, one every month and a half going forward.

And thanks to datamining, we know what may be the next two years of releases, barring any changes. The full list of leaked characters as it stands are:

  1. Cyclops
  2. Professor X
  3. Colossus
  4. Jia Jing
  5. Locus
  6. Trapster/Paste-Pot Pete
  7. Angela
  8. Hit-Monkey
  9. Deadpool
  10. Captain Marvel
  11. Emma Frost
  12. Phoenix/Jean Grey
  13. Valkyrie
  14. MODOK
  15. Ultron
  16. Blade (effectively guaranteed for season 2)

As I’ve said previously, it’s possible to guess which of these heroes might be paired. Two Asgardians like Angela and Valkyrie for one. My guess would be Deadpool and Hit Monkey together. I would have said Emma Frost and Jean Grey, but there are now a bunch more X-Men in the list. Still, those two seem further along in development. I’ll guess Cyclops and Professor X as a pair.

So yes, if it’s two characters a season, this would indeed be the next two years of releases unless any of these are scrapped (seriously what is Paste-Pot Pete doing here). Regardless of whether this exact list pans out, this is an insane pace of content. We are already at 37 heroes at the end of season 1. Another 16 is 53 heroes. That would be more than Overwatch’s 42 heroes which have taken 9 years to assemble.

Cool? Sure, but there could be some issues in terms of how hard it might be to balance this many heroes being spit out this fast. We’ve already seen a bit of wobbling when it comes to the season 1 patch which was meant to buff say, Black Widow, and she remains the worst character in the game. Other buffs were huge taking Storm from the worst hero to the best almost instantly. It’s all…fine, but this is an incredibly rapid clip of hero introduction outpacing essentially every other game in this genre. We are on pace to have this game be more like a MOBA than a hero shooter in terms of total volume of heroes. But hey, there are a lot of Marvel characters to get through, after all.
